The Ludwig Scale

The level and seriousness of hair loss can best be diagnosed by a cosmetic surgeon or dermatologist. However, for those who are witnessing hair loss more commonly than the norm, can use a certain scale designed specifically for them to determine the level of hair loss.

The Ludwig Scale is not as widely used as The Norwood Scale for Male Pattern Baldness but, this scale is important to check the level of hair loss in females.

The Ludwig Scale is divided mainly into 3 stages, stage 3 being the most advanced. Using this scale, women can check to see the severity of their hair loss.

Scale 1

Stage 1 represents the early beginnings of Female Pattern Baldness. Thinning begins all over the scalp, but it is still hard to notice any big difference or signs of baldness. Hair loss is evenly spread throughout the scalp and might notice the hair at the top of the scalp is thinning.

Scale 2

Hair loss is more obvious in this stage and you can easily see the scalp. At least 50-70% of  hair on top of the head has already thinned out and baldness is visible at every angle.

Scale 3 (Advanced Stage)

By now, your hair loss has reached the advanced stage where you will see more scalp than hair. When you reached this stage of hair loss, the best thing to do is consult a cosmetic surgeon.
