Hair Loss in Men

There are a number of reasons why men start to lose their hair. If you are a man between 20 and 45, and are experiencing hair loss, chances are you are experiencing male pattern baldness.

Hair loss in men follows a typical sequence or pattern, meaning that hair loss can start in different areas but is commonly most seen at the temples and/or on the crown of the head. Initial thinning of hair progresses throughout the years and can lead to total balding but more typically hair loss over the top of the head.

The Cause of Male Pattern Baldness

Most men are genetically predisposed to male pattern baldness. The effect of hormones on the hair follicle produces male pattern baldness and when testosterone, a hormone that is present in males after puberty, is converted to DHT enzyme.

The DHT tends to have an adverse affect on hair follicles, causing it to slow down hair growth and production. This process gradually diminishes hair and is then considered normal hair loss.
