Common Causes for Hair Loss

It is very normal to lose anywhere from 50-100 hairs each day, which is part of the hair renewal process. However, men and women can face excessive hair loss at any point of their life. There are many medical reasons for hair loss, including, medication, radiation, chemicals, hormonal imbalance, and chemotherapy. These are only some of the reasons for hair loss, and some are permanent and a few are temporary.

Common causes for hair loss in women

The most common cause of thinning and balding for a women is hormonal imbalances. Hair loss in women is more scattered around the scalp, thinning without a specific pattern, referred to female pattern baldness.

Common causes for hair loss in men

Hair loss in men is most commonly caused by genetics. For men hair loss is seen more in specific pattern, such as hairline or the top of the scalp, known as male pattern baldness

Hormones can simulate both hair growth and hair loss, genetics and hormonal changes have the biggest impact on hair loss for men and women.

Since everyone has DHT that is produced by their bodies and only some people suffer from hair loss there has to be another factor involved. The other factor is having follicles that have a greater number of hormonal receptors for the DHT to attach to. This is the factor that is inherited through the genes. Hair loss in men is most commonly caused by genetics.

Common baldness cannot occur without the presence of specific inherited genes. These genes can be passed on by either parent. However, just because the gene is present, it doesn't always mean that baldness is in your future. Hormonal changes as well as aging also play a major role in men and hair loss
